WW PrepareAthon

posted Oct 27, 2016, 8:37 AM by Karen Tarasevich

The West Warwick School Department is joining efforts with several other community groups in West Warwick and participating in West Warwick’s PrepareAthon. This is a grassroots, community wide effort to get as many people as possible in our town better prepared for emergencies. Our main goal is to have individuals in West Warwick sign up to receive emergency notifications and to discuss and create their family emergency communications plan.

We are encouraging all our community members to register your contact information on our City’s emergency alerts system, which is called CodeRed. Please take a moment to register and tell your friends and family to do the same. This will only be used for emergency communications.

It is important that you register, so you can decide how to receive these messages. If you want, you can also download the app onto your SmartPhone.

The better informed you are about emergencies in our town, the better prepared you will be to take action. Don’t let this opportunity pass you. Register now and encourage your friends and family to do the same.

Here is the link to register to receive notifications:  https://public.coderedweb.com/cne/en-US/BEC484D7FF38

And here is the link on West Warwick’s website. http://www.westwarwickri.org/index.asp?SEC=3BEBAD25-7B9F-48BE-BCFA-9638B09E0FE9&Type=B_BASIC

The below text can be used in the same message or in a separate message at a different date to spread the messages during the 30 days between October 28 and November 28

Discuss and create your family emergency communications plan

As part of West Warwick’s PrepareAthon, we are encouraging all the members of our community to discuss with your family how you will communicate with each other in the event of an emergency or natural disaster.

Please take time now to discuss now your family emergency communications plan.

Below are links to four different family emergency communications plans. Chose one of the templates, and fill it out with your family’s contact information. Then save the PDF, e-mail it to all your family members and print a copy to keep handy. In addition, take some time to encourage all your family members, in particular the children, to memorize key phone numbers. It is very important for all family members to memorize at least three different phone numbers to call in case of emergencies.
